Metro DX Club July Meeting Minutes 7/17/20

The Metro DX Club's July meeting was held on 7/17 via ZOOM. Thanks to John K9EL who arranged checking members in.

The meeting was called to order by Metro President Jim N9TK. Those attending besides Jim were:

K9AJ, K9XYL, K9EL, K9RR, K9GA, W9ILY, NE9A, WB9FMC, W9KXT, KA9IUC, WT2P, WB8BZK, K9ARZ, KC9EOQ, N2BJ, K9GY.

W9C John W9ILY reported on the results of our special event station. W9C made over 1200 QSO's. Thanks to all the members who operated. John is handling the LOTW uploads. K9BBQ designed the nice QSL and certificate. Jim N9TK is the QSL manager and has had quite a few requests so far. Lee WA9LEY and Jim are taking care of printing the certificate requests as they come in.

KING OF THE HILL John W9ILY announced that Ralph K9ZO has won the latest King of the Hill award with an amazing 1776 contacts in the IARU contest. A member can win once per quarter. The end of year KING OF THE MOUNTAIN will be awarded to the member who has compiled the most points for the year. You can find your place in the standings on the Metro website.

DONATION The membership voted to donate $150 to the Dave Kalter Youth Foundation. We have donated several times in the past.

DX MARATHON The results are posted in the June issue of CQ. Congratulations to John W9ILY who had the top score in W9 land. A big achievement. Thanks to John K9EL who runs the program for CQ magazine.

ARRL PLAQUES There was some discussion that certain achievement plaques from the ARRL have lost some of their appeal after going plastic. It was suggested that members write to headquarters to voice their opinion about this.

VE SESSIONS Steve W9KXT reported holding a VE session on 7/11 which resulted in 5 new hams. Steve's next session will be on August 8th. Mel NE9A reported that he held another VE session the next day with Jerry K9LOT.

PROGRAM: SHACK TOURS

Each member got a chance to show off their well appointed stations. Some are getting ready for NAQP RTTY and CQ VHF contests coming up this weekend. Others talked about their gardens. Harvesting vegetables is already underway.

After some discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
