Metro DX Club SEPTEMBER 2022 Meeting Minutes
September 23, 2022
We had an in person meeting this month as well as a ZOOM option for those who couldn’t attend. Thanks to John K9EL for his help.
The meeting was called to order by our President Jim N9TK. In attendance ( and on ZOOM), besides Jim were W9ILY, K9CJ, NE9A, W9KXT, K9DRS, KC9RLE, WA9GQK, K9EL, K9GA, K9OR, K9LOT, W9GJY, KD9UTJ, WB9FLY, WT2P, W9MK, K9ZO, KC9EOQ, WA9LEY. Some in attendance were guests.
HEALTH AND WELFARE No health issues reported.
OLD BUSINESS
MINUTES George K9GA motioned to approve the July minutes, it was seconded by Mel NE9A and passed. Our August meeting was a joint social meeting with NIDXA with no business conducted.
TREASURER’S REPORT John W9ILY reports that the Club had income of $59.55 this month which were dues payments. NOTE: When sending in dues via PayPal, please use friends and family option to avoid a cost to the Club. Our expenses included a web domain cost of $13.40. John reports that our treasury is in good shape. Detailed Treasurer reports are filed on our groups.io site.
WUST No recent activity.
KING OF THE HILL Barry N2BJ is the top scorer so far with Ralph K9ZO running a close 2nd.
Jerry WB9Z placed 1st in the LP category for the ARRL Intl CW.
CONTESTS

CQ WPX SSB winners
N2BJ #1 in 9 land, all bands HP
W9ILY #1 in 9 land 15 meters HP
K9ZO #1 in 9 land 80 meters HP
NAQP SSB and NAQP CW Metro fielded 2 teams in each contest but finished in the bottom half in both events.
CQ WPX CW Our club had 4 members participate.
NEW BUSINESS
DX ON THE BANDS Lots of DX has been reported. OJ0 and JW0 stations have been very active.
SPECIAL EVENT John W9ILY reports that our W9C special event was a success with special kudos going to Barry N2BJ who made over 1000 contacts.
W9DXCC Ed WA9GQK was complemented on a job well done. Ed praised all the volunteers for making the event run smoothly.
ILQP The Illinois QSO Party is coming up on October 16th. Please get on for this event and make some contacts. We need to defend the ILQP traveling plaque that we won last year.
CQWW RTTY It’s running this weekend. Many members say they will be participating.
A motion was made by CJ WT2P to close the meeting and seconded by Mike W9MK and the meeting was adjourned.
The meeting was adjourned followed by a round table discussion of members’ current activities.
Congratulations to John K9EL for his appointment to the ARRL DXAC.
Members talked about their DXCC totals and DX Marathon results to date.
CJ WT2P will be on CQWW RTTY this weekend with his own call and operating with a group using K1SFA.
PROGRAM
Jim N9TK played a video from the JW0A DXpedition going on now.
The main program was a video put together by Glenn Johnson W0GJ recapping the events of the 3Y0Z Bouvet DXpedition in 2018 that came close to the island but had to be scrubbed. Jim N9TK who was a team member and provided narration. Jerry WB9Z was also a team member.
