Metro DX Club Meeting Minutes

November 17, 2017

The meeting was called to order by President Jim N9TK, with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag at 19:31.

In attendance besides Jim were John W9ILY, John K9DRS, Matt K9BBQ, Mike K9LSH, Mel NE9A, Bob K9CJ, Lee WA8LEY, Jerry K9PY, Jerry K9LOT, Mike K9AJ, Susan K9XYL, John K9EL, Ron WB9JYZ, Steve K9SGB and Ed K9EGS. Ed described his amateur radio activities and equipment as well as submitting an application for membership.

OLD BUSINESS:

Health and Welfare: Good news to report with Matt K9BBQ upgrading to EXTRA CLASS. Congratulations! Jerry, K9LOT is a volunteer examiner and explained characteristics of the current exam.

The MINUTES of the previous meeting in October were moved to be approved by K9PY, seconded by NE9A and approved.

The TREASURERS REPORT was distributed by John, W9ILY indicating an income of $15 from dues renewal and expenses of $111.45 for web costs through 2019 and a KH1 DXpedition donation. The amount of $145.44 is available for donations. For more details, COME to a meeting!

WUST had no recent activity. An email reminder will be will be sent to those needing Baker/Howland KH1.

Recent DX activity of stations worked and soon to be on the air was discussed. These included 3CL and VK9MA.

CONTEST ACTIVITY: ARRL Sweepstakes SSB is the weekend of November 18-19. CQWW-CW is the weekend after Thanksgiving.

The ARRL has changed the rules to encourage electronic logs. Also, ARRL contest HF logs are due 5 days from the end of the contest.

Previous contests mentioned were CQWW Phone, RTTY and Field Day. Comments on our Field Day activation were shared.

NEW BUSINESS

Election of officers was held and Lee WA9LEY will assume our Secretarial duties. N9TK will remain as President, K9CJ as Vice President and John W9ILY will remain as Treasurer. This was voted upon by a voice vote and approved by the membership in attendance. K9DRS was thanked for his assistance with the minutes.

DUES for 2018 can be submitted to W9ILY in the amount of $15. Several members took the opportunity to pay their dues.

WINTERFEST dinner will be January 19, 2018 organized by Lee WA9LEY. The price will be the same as last year - $23.00 with a cash bar and the location will be the same - Papa Joe's 14459 South La Grange Road, Orland Park.

Suggestions for increasing activity on FACEBOOK were discussed.

SPECIAL EVENT operation was discussed including a suggestion from K9BBQ for a 200 year Illinois Bicentennial celebration event.

General Discussion on a variety of topics was held including the antenna on the roof which is still on hold with the Village.

K9LOT mentioned the National Weather Service SKYWARN Recognition day is December 1st and 2nd with the opportunity to operate WX9LOT at the weather bureau office in Romeoville

Following a motion to adjourn, the meeting was called to a CLOSE at 20:22.

After a short break there was an informative presentation of the FT-8 digital mode by W9ILY.
