METRO DX CLUB MEETING MINUTES – May 29, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:33PM by President Bob Adamitis K9MDO who then led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.  The minutes of the last meeting and the Treasurer’s report were read by Jack Nienhaus, W9NJB Secretary/Treasurer.  The members approved them.

Vice President John Holmes, W9ILY reported on contest activities:

Oklahoma QSO Party – W9OA scored 4680 points, W9ILY scored 3021 points. Metro finished #15 out of 27 club entries.

NAQP RTTY contest – Five members competed: N9LAH, AI9L, N9AKR, W9ILY, K9PY. Team score was 52,418.

CQWPX 2008 contest – Metro entry had 271,024 points.

CQWW RTTY 2008 contest – K9PY and W9ILY participated.

W9ILY talked about renewed activity on 6 meters and coming contests including Field Day and the ARRL VHF QSO Party June 13-15. John also read a portion of the ARRL Contest Update that noted how technology might possibly be used in the future for log checking. In addition, John pointed out that some contest results include the ability to print a participation certificate directly from the Internet.

H&W: Jim Mornar, N9TK’s mother passed away and Metro members expressed their condolences to Jim and his family.

K9MDO and his wife Karen WB9YBL were in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands May 3rd to 16th and Bob related some of his experiences and impressions of the country.

The NCDXF sent a notice reminding us that our annual donation was past due.  Bob K9CJ made a motion that the club send $50 to them which was seconded by Dennis KA9ZZT and approved by the membership.  The biannual NCDXF newsletter the Club has received will be distributed in a PDF file via the Metro DX Club reflector.

Annual Club Picnic:  This will be held on August 15th at the Colvin’s in Braceville.  It was suggested that we hold a 50/50 or perhaps give some sort of a prize.  Picnic Chairman Bob N9ORD will be putting out a letter to members about what to bring for a potluck meal.  The program at the picnic will be given by member WB9Z Jerry Rosalius.

Field Day: Dennis KA9ZZT advised that the masts and hardware that were left at the hospital grounds were not there last year when he went to pick them up.  A motion was made by Jess AI9L and seconded by Dennis KA9ZZT that authorized the club to spend up to $200 to replace this equipment.  Motion carried.

Special Event Station:  The Club has obtained the special club call W9M from the FCC that can be used between September 26 and October 10 for a special event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Metro DX Club. The letter M refers to Metro.  Details to be worked out later.

The program tonight was a DVD entitled “J5C Guinea–Bissau 2008”.  The program was very interesting as the team included Metro member N2WB “Wild Bill” Beyer.

Refreshments tonight were provided by Frank, K9BWQ.  Next month’s refreshments will be provided by Dennis KA9ZZT.  Meeting was adjourned at 8:28 PM .
